Assembly of Local Folk: Plant-kin, Craft and Magic

About this event

A day for the wild, curious and earth-connected folk of our city to come together.

We’re gathering people interested in plants, foraging, nature, herbalism, craft, green magic, urban ecology, traditional skills and the many ways we can build a relationship with the living world around us.

** What to Expect? **

A collective day of wandering · crafting · nature magic · ritual · conversation · foraging · fire · connection — with embodied explorations, practical workshops, things to make and do, and plenty of opportunities to meet other local folk. We'll share skills, discover third spaces, learn from one another and explore different ways of relating to our local environment, the wild city and its other-than-human inhabitants.

10:00 ~ Gather at Frankendael

10:15-10:45 ~ Opening Ceremony (Frankendael)
> Meditation, introductions, icebreakers, how do we relate to other-than-human in the city?

11:15-12:30 ~ Exploration, Wanderings (through Amsterdam Oost)
> Guided walking tour in Oost; discovering the wild city, with Lynn
> Multi-species encounters in Anna’s Tuin, with Gwen
> Heksjes pesto tour, with Tamara and the Heksjes
> Walk/cycle to) De Groene Bibliotheek, with Eelco
> Delve into the wilderness of Amsterdam Oost (self-guided, map provided)

13:30-15:00 ~ Craft Magic (various locations in Amsterdam Oost)
> Windfall Arcana; crafting divination cards from organic prints, with Diana
> Shaping as you’re shaped; exploring nature connection through clay, with Sanni
> Weaving for wildlife, with Sameena
> Remembering nettle cordage, with Tamara
> Living mediums: making your own artist charcoal from local willow, with Ha-Nah

15:30-17:00 ~ Contemplative Magic (various locations in Amsterdam Oost)
> Land grief: a workshop on reconnecting relationship with land and grief, with Sarah
> Sensory encounter with a plant, with Jules
> Practical magic; shape-shifting, with Lynn
> Film about nature in Amsterdam
> Guided meditations (self-guided, recordings provided)

17:30-20:30 ~ Communal Meal and Closing Ceremony (Nieuwland)
> Nourishing soup, fire, show and tell, open mic for poetry and storytelling
