About this event
On April 18, I will be guiding a special Deep Time Walk through Het Haagse Bos, as part of the celebration program of Stichting Bos dat van zichzelf is.
This edition is inspired by a remarkable moment in history. 450 years ago, the Akte van Redemptie secured the Haagse Bos as a forest that could not be sold or exploited, an early act of long term thinking, care, and protection.
During the walk, we journey through 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history, step by step. As landscapes, life, and climate unfold along the path, the story of this forest becomes part of a much bigger picture.
In deep time, the idea of owning land begins to feel less certain. Forests outlast empires, rivers redraw boundaries, and the ground beneath our feet has been shaped and reshaped countless times. What does it mean to “own” something that existed long before us, and will continue long after us?
The Akte van Redemptie offers a different perspective. Rather than ownership, it points toward guardianship, toward continuity over short term gain, toward a relationship with land that reaches beyond a single lifetime.
👉 What does it mean to care for a place, not just for years or generations, but across deep time?
As we walk, we explore how this intention resonates today, and what it might ask of us now.
✨ Expect a slow, immersive experience with moments of reflection, storytelling, and connection, to the Earth, the forest, and each other.
Come walk through deep time, and rediscover what it means to belong to a living world.
During the walk, we will stop at 18 so called Earth Stations to learn more about key events that have shaped the Earth as we know it today. At the Earth Stations, and during the walk, you are invited to join activities to deepen your sense of Deep Time and your connection with the more-than-human world – think of reflections, short visualization, use of the senses and more.
Further information about the event, such as the exact starting point, will be shared upon registration.
