Shibari Shawn is visiting europe and will come by Amsterdam to teach some classes at LIMINAL

PRESENTER:

Shibari Shawn is a gay shibari artist and rope bondage educator living in Seattle, USA. He is an associate member of the Chicago Hellfire Club and sits on the education committee for the MenRopingMen Conference.

Shawn started working with rope bondage in 2016. In 2021, after moving to Seattle, he started teaching monthly rope bondage workshops for the queer leather community and co-organized RopeLab: Seattle, a monthly men’s rope group for intermediate to advanced riggers tying on the masculine form.

In 2024 Shibari Shawn opened the House of Knotty Seattle’s gay rope studio and sex dungeon. He now offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes monthly along with hosting play parties, rope jams, and the community brunch Shibari Tea Dance.

Shibari Shawn offers a unique perspective through his gay lens on accommodations/modifications on tying larger bodies. He also provides a unique voice on tying on the masculine form with rope aesthetics. From a pedagogical perspective, his classes tend to demystify rope education making classes approachable, engaging, fun, and sex positive.

Over the past 5 years, Shibari Shawn has presented rope workshops at Devil Mask Society in LA, Tying Masc Bodies, Sakuro Studios in Chicago, Leather Archives and Museum in Chicago, RopeCraft 2025 in Chicago, Westcoast Bound in Vancouver, Canada, CLAW LA Leather Getaway, Austin Kink Weekend in Texas, and MenRopingMen in San Francisco (2024) and Seattle (2025).

Classes:

- Sensual Rope Bondage: It’s not what you tie but how you tie it.

This rope workshop will be a hands-on class with active participation and rope tying. We will briefly analyze the methodology of sensual rope bondage highlighting rope bondage as a erotic process rather than a simple means to an end. To begin, we will summarize 4 elements of sensual rope bondage: Set up, Intent, Connection, Unravel. Following, we will focus on 4 rope handling skills for increasing tension, flow, and intimate connection with your partner/s. At the end we will have the skills to tie both a fisherman’s harness and a spiral futomomo.

Prerequisites: None. This class is designed for all levels including new beginners. The ability to tie a “single column tie” is not required but will help you.

- Chest Harnesses and Boxties For Larger Bodies

This rope workshop will be a hand-on class with active participation and rope tying. First, we will briefly analyze a historical context behind TKs and discuss intent and purpose. Then, we will primarily focus on tying a low-hand V-shape reverse TK. Looking at various accommodations for different types of bodies, we will look at shoulder setting/body manipulation, evaluating our starting point of the TK, decreasing lateral movement of the elbows, and rope aesthetic making the rope proportional to the body we are tying.

Prerequisites: This class is not designed for new beginners. The ability to tie a “single column tie” is required. Students should have a basic understanding of rope fundamentals such as tension and placement. Students should have some basic experience tying chest harnesses/ 1 to 2 rope gote ties.

Required Materials: at least 4-6 hanks of rope in length based on size of the model.

- Rope Suspension For Larger Bottoms
Blownado: Let’s play spin the bottom

This workshop will create a sustainable face-down suspension. We will use a hands-free suspendable chest harness (such as the butterfly harness), dragonback hip/leg harnesses, and various uplines to suspend our partner’s hips at the center axis of our suspension. This will allow us to spin our partner 360 degrees. For AMAB bottoms living with external genitals, this allows for a spinning blow job effect performed by the top underneath creating the sex position coined by Shibari Shawn as the “Blownado”. We will also look at modifications to make the tie suitable for gangbang senarios with a circle of tops performing face fucking and anal penetration (spit roasting style) playing the game “Spin the Bottom”.

Prerequisites: Participants should have a basic understanding of suspension safety and how to tie a suspension upline. This class is suitable for students who are beginning rope suspension.

Required Materials: 6-8 hanks of rope for body rope. 1-3 hanks of rope for critical uplines (POSH/HemPlex and or 8mm Hemp is recommended). 3 additional hanks for non-critical uplines.
